Curbside and Drop-Off Recycling

Curbside Recycling

Curbside recycling is operated throughout all of Palmer Woods through Waste Management.  For a replacement container, or to start new service, contact Waste Management Customer Care at (844) 2-DETROIT (233-8764), with a one-time fee of $25 per container.

All recyclables can be must be placed in the blue recycling container, however no sorting is necessary.  All items should be empty, rinsed and free of food and dirt.  Lids, tops and labels do not need to be removed.  Shred personal information first (bank or credit card statements).

Acceptable items for curbside recycling are:

  • Paper
  • Paper bags
  • Clear and colored glass
  • Paperboard and boxes
  • Metals
  • Plastic bottles and containers #1-7

Some items that are not acceptable for curbside recycling include:

  • Paper milk and juice cartons
  • Plastic bags
  • Styrofoam containers and styrofoam packaging
  • Juice boxes
  • Propane tanks
  • Paint cans
  • Wood items
  • Batteries or Light bulbs

Drop-Off Recycling Facilities

Recycle Here! is a drop-off recycling facility that is funded by the City of Detroit, and accepts some of the items that cannot be recycled through our curbside recycling program. Located at 5960 Lincoln Street, just south of Grand Boulevard between Rosa Parks and the Lodge Freeway.

Acceptable items include:

  • Newspaper
  • Mixed paper (excluding tissue paper, receipts, napkins, wrapping paper, and paper towel)
  • Glossy paper
  • Shredded paper
  • Books
  • Cardboard and chipboard (excluding those dirty with food or grease)
  • Glass (separated into clear, brown, and green)
  • All metals
  • Plastics #1 and #2 (may be recycled together)
  • Plastics #4, #5, #6, and #7 (may be recycled together)
  • Styrofoam carryout boxes, packing materials, and peanuts

THESE ITEMS CANNOT BE ACCEPTED CURRENTLY:

  • Aseptic (orange juice, milk, soy milk, and juice box containers)
  • Lightbulbs
  • Batteries
  • Plastic bags
  • Computers and Electronics
  • Ink Cartridges
