Throughout his career, internationally acclaimed architect Frank Lloyd Wright was best known for his design of private residences. In 1955, Dorothy S. Turkel requested that he build the house of her dreams on the edge of the elegant Palmer Woods neighborhood. Now, more than 50 years later, it is undergoing extensive renovations by its new owners, who strive to pay homage to Wright’s 70-year legacy of creating designs that revolutionized the art and architecture of the 20th Century. The home is a currently an ambitious and impressive work in progress.

This Tudor Revival structure was built in 1927 for John and Bessie Miller. They purchased the home from Louis C. Miller Designers and Builders. The principal architect of the home is J. Ivan Dise, who designed only one other residence in Palmer Woods. Mr. Dise was later affiliated with design of non-residential projects, such as the Detroit Public Library-Main Branch, the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Boulevard Temple Complex, and the Grosse Pointe Pumping Station, a Michigan landmark.

This Tudor Revival manor boasts elegance both inside and out. The home was built for Mr. William Baxter Johnston, President of the Ideal Furnace Company, by architect William H. Kuni.  Mr. Johnston moved into this home in 1929 and remained its owner until 1942. The home has been impeccably maintained in its original condition along with the necessary upgrades for 21st century living. It has only had three owners since Mr. Johnston.

Built and designed in 1925 by Frazer-Couzens Building Company, this spacious, three-story home interprets the English Tudor Revival style with a charming mix of materials, colors and textures. The first owner, William P. Emery, was a  vice president for the Detroit Shopping News. In 1935, Earl F. Jackson bought the home, and over the next decade he made significant additions, including the spectacular Music Room and an adjoining room now used as a study.

1927 for William S. and Clara Knudsen by developer John Frazer and architect Frank Couzens, a student of Albert Kahn. William Knudsen was an executive at Ford until 1921 and later became president of General Motors. The Knudsens lived in the home until 1950.
